31.03.2016

On 30 April 1986 the CNUCE (National University Centre of Electronic Calculation) of the CNR of Pisa connected to the United States via internet, marking an important moment for our country. Bob Khan, after having experimented with TCP/IP protocol in the various American organizations already connected via Arpanet, decided to extend its application to European research institutes as well. In Italy, CNUCE was selected because of its researchers’ pioneering role in networking and for its international visibility

To remember this important anniversary, Matteo Renzi has announced on Facebook that 30 April 2016 will be “Internet Day”. On 29 and 30 April, MIUR (the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research), with the support of digital entertainers, will sponsor activities in schools to broaden understanding of the net, the opportunities it has created and the skills needed to defend oneself from its dangers. The same thing will occur in each of the regions, with demonstrations dedicated to citizens, businesses and services of public administration.
